The periodical cry by the public against corruption is again in the air. To allay the rising tempo of public feelings the situations had arisen several times in the past, but on every occasion the storm got diverted and diffused by holding out hopes and promises of keeping stricter watch and control over persons in position of authority and power and strictly punishing those found guilty. What has been achieved from past actions is before everybody to witness.
The present hue and cry gives lie to the effectiveness of such actions. They say where there is a will, there is a way. This can act both ways, in finding reasons to punish corrupt people, and also in finding means to save and protect them. It is comparatively easy to haul up a corrupt individual in isolation, but it is extremely difficult to effectively handle corrupt organization, wherein every member acts on the understanding of “one for all and all for oneâ€.
In Russia corruption is rare, because whenever anyone is found guilty, even of small corruption, he is shot, irrespective of his rank, status, position or post. The object is to stop corruption to people of authority, rank and status etc. An occasional small dose of antibiotic makes the germs in the patient’s body immune to the effect of the medicine.
People whose known income is hardly sufficient to keep their body and soul together have built costly bungalows, acquired properties and made assets, have big motor cars, and are living lavish lives, and still we need proof of their being corrupt. Public knows all such individuals but cannot say it. If only the onus of proving honesty is laid on the shoulder of the accused, ninety percent of corruption will stop forthwith. Without radical measures only a miracle may remedy the epidemic of corruption.
